The Guide to a Clear Skin Holiday
As the Danish author Hans Christian Anderson once said, “To travel is to live. We're not so sure Hans had to worry about the implications of travelling on his skin because if he were we'd expect some kind of classic quote advising us of how to prevent post holiday skin! We love to travel but it can be a scary thought when your skincare regime needs a suitcase of its own and, lets face it, baggage allowance definitely doesn't prioritise our skin needs.
Packing
If you're flying light and need to squeeze your skin goodies into your hand luggage you may be surprised to hear some of your favourite products come in travel size portions. I prefer buying travel size products to flight pots to avoid a suitcase explosion mid flight. Don't be tempted to try them before your holiday, they are fool proof when sealed. We also have the perfect sized, clear skincare bags with a tight sealed zip for you to fly your cosmetics through customs with style*.*Please check individual airport rules.Dehydration
It's difficult to avoid some kind of dehydration when travelling, even if you aren't flying to the sun. Dehydration kicks in before the holiday begins; whilst on an aeroplane the humidity drops to between 10 to 20 per cent. Low humidity means moisture evaporates from the body quickly causing dryness in the skin, eyes, throat and hair. Drinking lots of water is the best way to avoid dehydration, just like you would if you were working out, you must replace lost moisture.Using a hydrating face mask will help your skin lock in moisture. My favourite skin saviour is Mesoestetic Crystal Fiber Mask. This hydrating sheet mask is soaked in hyaluronic acid that helps to draw moisture to the skin's surface.Sunscreen
It may sound like an obvious one but you'd be surprised how many people still manage to pick up sunburn when on vacation. Your choice of sunscreen is a very personal one and finding one that really suits your skin isn't always easy. However there are a few important things to consider when picking yours.SPF factor is the amount of protection you will get when out in the sun. I recommend all my clients use at least SPF 30 in the UK and 50+ while abroad. It's important to remember that even the highest strength sun protection won't last all day. Reapplication should be done every two hours on both the face and body.Post holiday treatment
Our holiday guide wouldn't be complete without a post holiday treatment. Holidays often mean we over indulge on bad foods and alcohol and under indulge in sleep! This all wreaks havoc on our skins, leading to breakouts, dark circles and a dull, tired looking complexion. The change in temperature and over exposure to UV also impacts the way our skin looks and feels.
Spectra Soft Peel is my ultimate skin rejuvenation treatment post holiday. It works by lifting away dead cellular build up, stimulating collagen and erasing sunspots.
