Post Bank Holiday Skincare SOS
We all love a bank holiday weekend. An extra day off work! An extra lie in! An excuse to go out on the town! I don't know what it is about bank holiday weekends, but we all can't seem to wait to get our best dress on and have a few too many cocktails. It may have been a great night, but you may have woken up feeling a little worse for wear Monday morning (myself included, slaps on the wrist for me!).
Other than giving you a pounding headache, alcohol can also leave you with a skin hangover as well. Alcohol dehydrates the body and our skin is one of the first places to suffer. As our body takes away our skin's moisture, skin looks dull, dry and the appearance of any lines and wrinkles will be seriously exacerbated (which is why you can feel like you've aged years overnight). Plus, you can often wake up to find your skin is looking a little flushed and some brand new blemishes may have popped up.Basically, a night out leaves your skin in a bit of a mess. As with anything, there's no one-size-fits-all quick-fix solution for anything, but here are some products I like to have handy in my 'Skincare SOS' bag.Mesoestetic Crystal Fiber Mask
Nothing can revive dull, tired skin quite like this mask. Originally designed to repair post-peel skin, it is an intensely hydrating product that dehydrated skin will definitely thank you for! Even better is that it's a sheet mask, so there's no fussing about slathering it over your face. Place it on, go have a lie down for 20 minutes and take it off. Sounds like the perfect hangover treat to me!Dermaviduals Vitamin C Concentrate
A daily skincare staple anyway, this one is great for bringing that glow back to the skin. Once my hydration levels are topped back up, I like to put some vit C back into the skin to brighten my complexion up.Jane Iredale Glow Time Full Coverage BB Cream
If all else fails, fake it. You can't always get away with hibernating in bed with Netflix and some chocolate, so this is my go-to foundation when my skin needs some serious help. It's full coverage, so conceals any blemishes, and adds a natural, healthy glow without making my oily skin look too shiny. When you're wearing this, nobody has to know.Water, water and more water
Okay, so it's not a skincare product, but there's a lot to be said for drinking plenty of water. Ideally, you should try to drink a glass in between alcoholic drinks during your night out to keep your hydration levels up, but if you forget, up your water intake the following day to restore your body's hydration levels. Not only will your skin start to look better, but you'll also start to feel normal again.
