World Menopause Day with Emepelle
Friday 18th October 2019 marks World Menopause Day, to raise awareness of the impact menopause can have on women's everyday lives. At Face the Future, we are exposed to this impact, especially when it comes to skin. Did you know, for example, that 30% of skin's collagen is lost during the first 5 years of menopause?
As a skincare clinician at the age of 46, I'm never one to turn down a new product or treatment to help tackle the signs of ageing and at the beginning of June, I was asked to trial a new brand launched by our friends over at Aestheticare. Specifically formulated for women experiencing symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, Emepelle uses innovative MEP Technology to target Estrogen Deficient Skin, with symptoms including dry skin, dull skin tone, thinning, fine lines and wrinkles. When I was asked to trial Emepelle, it came at the perfect time as during the summer months, I tend to reduce the amount of strong, prescriptive products I use, especially my choice of Vitamin A product - Retriderm.
As Emepelle is specifically formulated for Estrogen Deficient Skin, let's take a look at how menopause actually affects skin
How does menopause affect skin?
Before, during and after the menopause, estrogen levels start to fall, and continue to diminish even further as we age. The symptoms can start months or years before the menopause actually begins.Did you know that estrogen plays a vital role in skin's health and appearance? Estrogen is responsible for helping to maintain optimal moisture retention so skin stays supple and hydrated. The hormone also activates skin cells that are responsible for producing collagen, elastin and Hyaluronic Acid - three VERY important skin components.Low levels of estrogen cause skin to age quicker than in any other stage of a woman's life. Estrogen Deficient Skin (EDS) causes dryness, laxity, wrinkling and dullness in the epidermis. How does MEP Technology work?
Emepelle uses innovative MEP Technology, which works to restore the natural function of Estrogen Deficient Skin including addressing collagen loss. MEP Technology activates key skin cells, which require estrogen receptors in order to produce key skin components: collagen, elastin and Hyaluronic Acid.MEP Technology only acts on the skin, restoring lost collagen and improving the appearance of Estrogen Deficient Skin. MEP is NOT estrogen or a hormone replacement; it is safe and effective in stimulating the fibroblast and keratinocyte cells responsible for collagen, elastin and Hyaluronic Acid production.Emepelle products
The Emepelle range consists of two products: a day serum and night cream. The day serum has a light and silky texture, and should be uses in the morning after cleansing. After using Emepelle consistently for the last few months, I personally feel that my skin is looking bright and clearer. My skin has a fresh look with pores appearing minimised and skin texture looking and feeling smoother. In the last few weeks, I've had lots of compliments on my skin - which is always a win - and patients in clinic have been asking what I have been using well now you know! My secret is Emepelle, and I love it. I am sure you will too!
